Building Opportunity

Depot Backstage is a new, purpose-built technical theater and production arts training facility being developed by the Philipstown Depot Theater. It will serve as a permanent, year-round home for Theater 360, a hands-on training program for middle and high school students, educators, and adults. The facility will include rehearsal space, a workshop, and dedicated storage for costumes, props, and sets—designed to support hands-on learning and live production work.

We have a building site on the grounds of the Philipstown Rec. Department. Our plans have been approved. Once our funding is secured, construction will begin.

Spotlight on Learning

Inside Depot Backstage, students will have the space, equipment, instruction, and mentorship to learn every aspect of behind-the-scenes storytelling, including:

  • Stage management

  • Lighting design and technology

  • Sound design and audio engineering

  • Scenic painting and projection

  • Costume design and construction

  • Set design and construction

Room to Grow

Live performance depends on a skilled backstage workforce, but access to technical theater training is increasingly limited, especially outside New York City. Regional theaters and schools struggle to fill key production roles, while students interested in hands-on, creative, and technical careers often lack a local pathway to explore them.

Depot Backstage addresses this gap by providing the space; Theater 360 provides the training.

Together, the facilty and the program:

  • BUILD a local pipeline of students prepared for college, apprenticeships, and paid production work

  • GIVE students and educators access to professional-grade facilities and mentorship close to home

  • SUPPORT schools and community partners that lack dedicated production spaces
