Theater 360

A show is so much more than what happens at center stage. Lighting techs, set builders, costume designers, audio engineers—they all have important roles to play in telling a story. Theater 360 is a new educational curriculum, developed by the Depot Theater, that shines the spotlight on those behind-the-scenes skills. The only program of its kind in the region, Theater 360 gives students a chance to work with industry-standard tools on real productions, guided by professional faculty and mentors.

Theater 360 will be housed at Depot Backstage, a new purpose-built workshop/classroom/lab/studio unlike any facility in the Hudson Valley. Once fully equipped, Depot Backstage will allow Theater 360 to serve approximately 800 annual enrollments, from middle- and high-schoolers to educators and adults seeking professional development. Those students will come from across the region; their work, in the form of props, projections, lighting schemes, and set pieces, will appear in working theaters throughout the Hudson Valley.

Participants in Theater 360 will learn to collaborate, solve problems, and explore their creativity. They’ll also develop skills on which they can build a career in theater, including:

  • Stage Management

  • Lighting Design & Technology

  • Sound Design & Audio Engineering

  • Scenic Painting & Projection

  • Costume Design & Construction

  • Scenic Design and Construction

Designed to be shared, Theater 360 Anywhere extends our model through a digital archive that allows schools and theaters across New York State to adapt the curriculum and resources developed inside Depot Backstage.
